Here at Springvale, you are offered the perfect opportunity to bond with nature. On our premises, vegetation varies widely and ranges from fynbos in the mountains to karoo broken veldt, spekboom and succulent karoo on the koppies and plains. The Springvale Hiking Trail & 4x4 Route is the perfect way to experience this unspoiled beauty.

Feel the earth beneath your feet, the wind in your hair and fill your lungs with the pure, pollution-free air of the Klein Karoo.

Springvale 4x4 Route:

The route departs at the entrance of the Wild Camp on Springvale, about 3 km from the Cottage. With a difficulty level of 2 - 3, the route duration varies from about 3 - 4 hours. You will find sign boards as you go along, directing you on either the 4x4 or the 4x2 route through the thick undergrowth. Part of the route runs along an old train track that was demolished in the earlier days. The train track route ends at the dam, where you can relax and cool off in the water.

From this point forward, the route develops into steep ascents to the highest peak, named Viewpoint. Viewpoint offers a 360° view of the vineyards, as well as the game.

Game in the camp at present: BLUE WILDEBEEST, RED HARTEBEEST, GEMSBOK, BLESBOK, SPRINGBOK, IMPALA, ELAND, ZEBRA & KUDU

On the way down, steep descents await the driver, low range is extremely important and must be used at all times. The route passes two camp sites, the only point where you are allowed to have a barbecue.

The last highlight of the trip is the beautiful view whilst travelling over the dam wall - this is the perfect spot for bird watching.

You exit the route the way you entered.

Springvale Hike:

An exciting 3 km hike awaits motivated hikers. The route offers a reward to those who manage its steep ascents. Viewpoint is the highest peak of the trail, rewarding you with a 360° view over the miraculous vineyards, Dwarsrivier Valley and Towerkop. Different fynbos and succulent plants are found among this trail.

Mountain Biking: (own bicycles required)

Mountain Biking can be done in the Game Camp, as well as on the farm. We charge a minimal fee of R 20.00 for biking in the Game Camp.
